The story of Topeco starts in 1948 with eight sock machines and 7 employees in a 200-square meter rented building in Swedish Ulricehamn. The Topeco name comes from its founders: To – for Tholén Nils, Pe – for Persson Hilding and Co – for Company.
The Topeco sock factory focuses on high quality men's socks, selling to men’s outfitters and department stores. The company flourishes between 1948 and 1960 and buys land to build a factory that is nine times the size of the old premises. And things just get better. Between 1978 and 1988 the company invests around 20 million SEK in buildings, machines and training. Sales increase from 11 million to 35 million SEK.
The whole Tholén family get involved in the company. Hedda takes charge of administration while Christer works with planning, production, purchasing, sales and finance. Nils Tholén hands over control to his son Christer after 40 years as director. Topeco is acquired by Springhill in 2005.
